Elder Clarke Lee – Short Autobiography
Wilbur “Clarke” Lee, (December 28, 1956) is the son of “Leon” Jasper and Mary “Pauline” Clark Lee. Born and raised at Hoboken Georgia and has lived there his entire life. August 24, 1985 he married Julie Marie Lee and God blessed them with 3 children. The first was born dead, the second a son (Riley Clarke Lee) and the third a daughter Mary Elizabeth Lee. Clarke joined the church at age 17 and at 18 was appointed to be the sing leader for the Sacred Harp sings. He served in this capacity for about 25 years until called to the ministry. Clarke was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1999.
Clarke was led to join the church at High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church in Slaughterville Georgia on May 11, 1974, and was baptized by Elder Tollie Lee, in the Satilla River. A few months later Clarke, along with four others moved their membership to Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church, just a few miles from my home, to re-establish the church there which had gone down for lack of membership, due mostly to in-fighting among brethren. I remained in membership at Oak Grove until 1994, at which time I was excluded from the church fellowship because I was attending Sacred Harp Sings in other places and they had prayer at these sings. This was looked upon by these former brethren as participating in a different religious order and that was not permissible by their rules.
Having been given freedom to visit other churches and denominations, which I was forbidden to do before, I spent about 4 years visiting many different churches and denominations and attending Sacred Harp sings in several different places in the United States.
I was not in membership at any other church until I was received at Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Hoboken Georgia in 1998. I was only in membership at Mars Hill a very short time, before being licensed to exercise in the preaching of the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I was ordained to the ministry September 2, 2000 and was called to serve as Pastor of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Patterson Georgia in October of 2000. I served at Big Creek church until resigning the position in 2012 to serve my home church Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church every Sunday.
January 07, 2018 I gave up my pastoral call to Mars Hill Church due to health issues. I had to retire from work because I could no longer drive. I had been diagnosed with Meniere’s disease caused by damage to the balance nerve between the ear and the brain.
Presently, I am still in membership at Mars Hill Church and preach when called upon. Meantime, I continue to study and teach the bible. I am setting up this website as a means to reach out in ministry to others since I can no longer drive.
In Christian Love,
Clarke Lee, 01/16/2018
